Piccadilly Plodders Raise £5K for Candelighters
Added: 22nd August 2008
This year the Piccadilly Plodders completed the strenuous Knaresborough Bed Race course in a very respectable time of just over 18 minutes! The team was led by Simon Watts, Managing Director of Piccadilly Motors. Simon Watts said, "The entire team thoroughly enjoyed the day and the £5000 we raised for Candlelighters was worth the many hours of training and the effort, on the day, required to get across the finishing line. I would also like to thank the runners and many of our long term suppliers who kindly sponsored us in our efforts to beat last years total. For over ten years I have thoroughly enjoyed raising money for Candlelighters, helping improve the quality of life for those children and their families suffering from this dreadful disease. I believe anyone who is in a position to support worthwhile causes, such as Candlelighters, should get involved and help; without the support of others all charities would find it difficult to meet their objectives." Simon Watts commented.
The £5000 cheque he hands over this year brings Piccadilly Motors total contribution to Candlelighters close to the £60,000 mark.
Harrogate Candlelighters committee member Annabel Search said, "On behalf of all the children being treated at the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Unit at St James's that Candlelighters support may I thank Mr Simon Watts for his many years of dedicated fundraising on behalf of the charity. Fighting children's cancer is a long term battle. His support and that of so many others goes to help all those now on the unit have hope for the future. We'd like to say thank you to Simon." The new laboratory for Brain Tumour Research will receive all the funds from our 2008 campaign. To donate please go to www.justgiving.com/braintumourresearchlabcandlelighters
